Thursday Meeting

On Thursday 's Meeting we talked about making wraps and other alternatives besides sandwiches and we asked each other where would the money go if we sold these items and we said it would go back into the group so we can do more each time.

Service Learning Meeting On Friday

On Friday we were talking about ways to improve the school lunches we came up with ways we could do it. We also have a walking/Bus trip to Aramark so we can see what lunches they can offer us for our type of kitchen. Last thing we left off at was when we were talking about restaurants we could go to near the school to see what types of food they have and how long will it take to get a meal for lunch. My role is to research a restaurant.

Fridays Meeting

This meeting was so boaring only thing we talked about was changing the school lunch and we came up with ways to try and change it. This is not what I wanted to do I wanted to do juvenile diabetes. For this week we will see if someone has talked to the lunch lady and see where our lunch is coming from. We came up with a plan to sell sandwhiches to raise money.

NHD Reflection

This year I had to do NHD it was challenging but it was good for me I am just glad it is over. The most challenging part about it was that it took so long and took so much energy and it would just start to get boaring. The best thing about it was that I got it done and I don't have to worry about deadlines no more or research. Some challenges I had was the dead lines I hate having someone tell me what time I had it due. And that project took so much time but it was worth it I got it done on time and I don't have to do it anymore.

Biography of: Julia Fields

Julia Fields was born in 1938 in Perry County, Alabama. She grew up in a large family. In 1962 she published her first poem. She graduated from Knoxville College in Tennessee in 1961. A year after that she published two of her other poems in an anthology of black literature, “ Beyond the Blues” (1662). After that success she continued to write poetry and short stories while teaching high school in Birmingham, Alabama. She has also taught colleges and Universities. Her first volume of poetry, Poems came out in 1668 was well received. Her second volume of poetry “ East of Moonlight” in 1773 captures and reflects the folk spirit in black life. High on The Hog is a great poem and tells her thoughts of how people rationalize the food African Americans eat. She wanted to make a statement that not all of us eat black-eyed peas or collard greens or even pork chops smothered in gravy. Ms. Julia Fields inspired me with her poem High on the Hog I saw American culture in a different light. I love this poem because it shows the different side of African Americans.

Intro to Should everyone be allowed to use the "N" word?

“Nigger” or “Nigga” which one would you rather be called Nigger or Nigga. Is there a difference between the two words? In my English class we are reading The adventures of Huckleberry Finn and in the book they mentioned the word a lot. Say for instance you were a slave would you want your master calling you a Nigger? Or maybe a racist person calling you a dirty monkey? People sometimes use the word in a racist way. Others can use it as a greeting to your friend, buddy, or hommie. Some also use it to hurt another person. If you were greeting a friend would you say it? What is the difference between Nigger and Nigga? Is there even a difference?

In re Gault:40 years later

I was up set at the fact someone can be arrested and not have their rights read to them even though they didn't have enough money to pay for it. I was applaud by the fact he was held against his will and never knew what the charges were. He did not have an attorney present and they did not appoint one to him. What the government did was accuse him of something and never investigated the issue. Then 39 years later a case that was something like what the Gault case was like but it was on different charges. This case was about a girl who used her Freedom of speech and talked about her Vice Principle on a myspace she had "allegedly" made and she "allegedly" said some threatening comments on the "alleged Myspace page". But the whole thing was meant out to be a joke. The same thing that happened to Gault happened to the girl was not read her rights. She was not officially arrested they gave her mom paper work and did not explain what the paper work was. Basically it was saying she waved her daughters right to council But those document was an unconstitutional document because only the accuser can wave their rights to council. The case went on and she eventually was put out of the Fact program and soon she will not have a record.
